Country report on the early days of the Covid pandemic in India and its handling. This essay was written in May-June 2020, and forms a useful record of the events of those days. It was published in August 2020, before any vaccine had been developed, when “herd immunity” was still among the options being considered. It correctly warned about the deepening of social divisions because of certain responses to Covid. This was published in The Asia-Pacific Journal, Japan.
